Why was my card payment declined by the card issuer?

To protect your privacy, your card issuer doesn't tell PayPal why your card was declined. Here are the most common reasons:

  • Your card details are outdated. Make sure the card isn't expired or closed, and the billing address on your PayPal account matches the one on your card statement.
  • The payment might exceed your available credit.
  • The payment amount might be over your spending limit or exceed your available balance.

What to do

Contact your card issuer or bank to find out why the payment from PayPal was declined. After they correct the problem, you may try to send money with your card again.

If you continue having issues, you can use a bank account or a different card to complete the payment.

To manage your payment methods and select a preferred way to pay, go to Wallet.
