How does PayPal Giving Fund grant donations to charities?
As a registered charity and Donor Advised Fund, we receive donations through our partner programs and make grants to donors' recommended charities, helping to raise funds and reach new donors.
If your charity has confirmed charity status with PayPal and joined PayPal Giving Fund
PayPal Giving Fund distributes donated funds to enrolled charities that have been recommended by donors, by depositing a single payment into a charity's PayPal account each month.
- Payments are made 10-45 days after the date of donation.
- Payments for eligible donations are made on or before the 25th of the month.
- Charities must be enrolled by the 15th to receive their first payment within the same month.
Enrolled charities can view donation data, donor data (where a donor has consented), download donation reports, opt-in and out of partners, and personalize their profile within the PayPal Giving Fund dashboard.
If your organization has not confirmed your charity status with PayPal and has not joined PayPal Giving Fund
- We distribute checks monthly to unenrolled charities; funds are typically distributed within 75 days from the date of donation.
- We contact charities via email/physical mail before delivering funds by check, ensuring they meet our Nonprofit Certification Policy and Donation Delivery Policy.
- Using data from IRS and GuideStar, we attempt to enroll charities for up to 90 days, sending monthly outreach emails and direct mail.
- Checks are sent to addresses listed on GuideStar. Update your address with GuideStar. Once updated, please contact PayPal Giving Fund.
Unenrolled charities wishing to access limited donation data should confirm their status with PayPal, log into the PayPal Giving Fund dashboard, and withdraw consent to remain unenrolled. Charities that wish to reconsent and feature on PayPal Giving Fund’s database should log into their dashboard and reconsent. Learn more about eligibility and enrollment here.
If your charity hasn't received funds
- Maintain your PayPal account and ensure that your charity status is in good standing. Resolve any account limitations by logging in and providing required documentation or contacting customer service.
- Ensure your charity remains in good standing with relevant regulators (e.g., IRS, California Attorney General, FTB). If your organization has breached the terms of our Charity Certification Policy, it's not eligible to receive a grant from PayPal Giving Fund.
